This issue of Eating, In Context was born from a personal exploration, throughout the past year of the wild plants surrounding me in eastern Switzerland. After attending a few classes, following a few choice creators on social media and reading a few books, I started to see my surroundings differently. Even in a city, there were wild edible and medicinal plants surrounding me.
Slowly, sporadically and spontaneously, I began to pick some wild plants. As the bouquets were drying in my home office, the idea of creating “Tsüri Tea” began to take shape — a tea bringing together the unique plant discoveries made over months around Zurich. At the end of July, I was ready to assemble my vision: 25 sachets containing roughly 7 grams of loose-leaf herbal tea.
This writing project was incubated over 1 year in the FoodHaus Fellowship for Action, and this tea came to life as I was going through the program. It therefore seemed only natural to gift this tea to the people who were by my side on this journey. And what a joy it was to receive messages and images that my tea was being enjoyed all over the world!
With this issue, and with this short account of my personal practice of urban foraging, I hope to have opened the door of possibility for your own foraging practice, dear reader. Thank you for your attention, and until next time.
